MONKEY HOUSE
At the beginning of this year, the day we started thinking about a house that connects to the magnitude of the trees, there they appeared. A family of Capuchin Monkeys, a complete tribe! They were back and taught us the way of why, where, and how to do the project. The Monkey House was inspired by the verticality of the forest, in the possibility of approaching the crests of the trees, in a gentle and subtle way, connecting with its countless inhabitants of the kingdom of flora and fauna.
When we thought about the landscape design the statement was the complete reforestation with endemic plants, which we consider is a priority in Brazil and worldwide. As well, conducting local plants' growth around the house, it proposes a state of immersion of the house and the humans into the wild.
We found the facility a little hard to find. The building is tucked back in a warehouse area of White Bear Lake. At the time Google Maps repeatedly led us to the wrong building and, at least in 2013, the sign was not easy to spot from the road. Especially if you are attending a birthday party, I would recommend leaving time to find the place. However, I note that our directory map has it labeled well.
Now also available to book on Airbnb, The Monkey House is an exercise in low-impact design with a small footprint of 16.5 feet by 19.5 feet. The goal, says Brajovic, was to "grow" the 925-square-foot house vertically between the existing trees with zero interference to existing vegetation.
The hand-tossed sourdough pies are classic: thin and crispy, with big, wide slices. The dough recipe and the sourdough starter both come from Parsons' time at Sneakers Bistro, the Monkey's sister restaurant. (Gluten-free crust is available but not made in-house.) And it's not just cheese and pepperoni. Those are always on the menu, for $3.25 and $3.75 a slice, respectively ($18 and $20.50 for whole pies). But the short-and-sweet lineup also includes a vegetarian pesto pie, a well-thought-out Buffalo chicken and a rotating roster of "weird, cool pizzas," Parsons said ($4.25 per slice and $24.50 per pie). Specials have included taco pie; smoked tomato with creamed-corn ricotta; and the wildly popular current offering, the McMonkey.
Sitting roughly 100 feet above the water on a Pacific cliff, our location is second to none in San Juan del Sur. Our villa is nestled in a private cove with amazing views of Costa Rica, the Pacific Ocean, Paradise Bay and Gorilla Head Rock, with easy access to water, sun, surf and fishing, but still only five minutes from San Juan del Sur city central where you will find limitless bars and restaurants, chocolate covered bananas, Gelato and among other things, the first micro-brewery and best live blues in Nicaragua. Additionally, we are close to a variety of other activities including horseback riding, zip-lining, volcano climbing, golfing, four-wheeling and much more. Our house offers a security system with 24/7 monitoring and response from town, plus on-site caretakers who live in a casita next door to the main house. Our caretakers Yubran and Yolanda only speak Spanish, so bring a translator if you are non-Spanish speaking (like us). They are wonderful and accommodating people who can provide a variety of services including cleaning, cooking, laundry, and babysitting (an additional fee may be required). San Juan del Sur is known as the jewel of Nicaragua by its people. It is a remarkably casual and sleepy fishing village that is home to many US and Canadian expatriates, catering as well to a wide range of foreign visitors from all over the world. The people of San Juan are very warm, welcoming, gentle and honest. Hanging out in San Juan causes time to slow down, and helps to decompress and heal from the pace of real life.
When coronavirus broke out, Marko Brajovic took his wife, two children and dogs to live in ARCA, a house he designed in the Brazilian part of the Atlantic Forest. He built the Monkey House cabin in its grounds as a guest house for friends to stay.
"A few years ago the monkeys that lived at the foot of Serra in Paraty disappeared," explained Brajovic. "It was said that it was due to yellow fever that supposedly spread among the primate families. I don't know, we were very sad.
We also link to copies of audits nonprofit organizations that spent $750,000 or more in Federal grant money in a single fiscal year since 2016. These audits are copied from the Federal Audit Clearinghouse.
Le Monkey House was originally created by Raygan Ketterer as a side project to outlet some non customer-driven creative ideas. It snowballed into a steady business and is now taking the majority of our time. We use many forms of inspiration from pop culture for our content - in doing this, we get to enjoy seeing our customers connect with our products. All items are printed and designed in house and we are always updating old designs and adding new as well.
To find out more about what Monkey's House does, visit monkeyshouse.org, and for updates on the current fosters, go to their Facebook page. The group is looking for volunteer and fundraising help, as well as possible investors in order to purchase a dedicated property for even better care.
Last summer, I visited Dongducheon, where the footprint of the American-led camp-town economy in South Korea is now visibly receding. The U.S. Army installation lies along a river valley in the picturesque Gwangju Mountain Range near the border with North Korea; it was the scene of the first battles of the Korean War, when Kim Il Sung sent Russian tanks through this corridor in his march to Seoul. The base complex stretches from the main gate of Camp Casey to many of the outlier bases that were once part of the 2ID. In 2004, to the shock of city residents, about half of the division was deployed virtually overnight to Iraq; over the past two years, much of the division, including its headquarters, has moved to Camp Humphreys, the massive U.S. military base in the city of Pyeongtaek, 40 miles south of Seoul. The only 2ID unit left at Camp Casey is the 210th Field Artillery Brigade, which now houses about 4,800 U.S. soldiers and 500 South Koreans, according to Junel Jeffrey, a 2ID spokeswoman. In its heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, the entertainment district around the base was filled with bars, restaurants, and clubs decorated with garish neon advertising designed to pull in the GIs stationed so far from home. But as the U.S. presence has dwindled, the city is now just a shadow of its former self. 2ff7e9595c
